19th March 2021
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide free training to over 3,000 members of our Lifecycle accountancy community, March has been a bumper month with a record number of participants.
Budget Update
On Friday 5th March, we once again partnered with top tax expert, Giles Mooney from PTP Training, to deliver a captivating commentary on the key issues arising from Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s Budget two days earlier. Over 500 Lifecycle members registered to attend the three hour session and proved they were both knowledgeable and witty given the entertaining dialogue between Giles and some of our virtual audience!
Giles’ post Budget summary and its impact on accountancy advisers and their SME clients concluded: “This year’s Budget speech was expected by many to include changes to Capital Taxes to raise revenue to support the Government’s needs and generous Covid grants programme. In fact, the Chancellor opted to leave personal tax alone and look to collect greater income from Corporation Tax. The reintroduction of marginal tax rates for companies will bring a large amount of complexity back to advisers and corporate tax is further complicated by changes to loss reliefs and capital allowances. Planning for those changes needs to happen as soon as possible to give clients the best advice possible.”
Leonard Curtis has been running free CPD updates for its Lifecycle members for over five years and has always chosen to work with leading experts in the field.
Rik Heap, Director at Leonard Curtis, who looks after the 3,000-strong Lifecycle community, said star quality was a must have for those delivering the updates. He commented: “Anyone who can make tax entertaining gets my vote. Giles and his team have been a proven draw for our members – we’ve had a record turnout at online technical training in March and are committed to providing accessible and flexible CPD courses to Lifecycle members ongoing.”
And that view was supported by Neil Banks from TCA Accountants in St Helens, who tuned in and had this to say:
“Giles is one of the best tax lecturers out there, who manages to keep your attention throughout with some interesting insights behind the academic stuff!”
COLLABORATIVE COMMITIMENT TO CPD – FUTURE EVENTS
Spring Accounting Update
Back for a 5th year, we are delighted to welcome back accounting and compliance expert, Valerie Steward, to present her ever popular spring update series – an eight date virtual roadshow taking place during March.
The feedback from the six events that have taken place so far has been excellent as always. One especially glowing review came from a Lifecycle member of nearly two years; Jane Freeman from JFS Torbitt in Birtley, County Durham. Jane highlighted what our accountancy community is all about…
“Topic coverage by Lifecycle has been brilliant – Val for the accounts update last week as well as the presentation from Giles – it could not have been better. Loving the programme for CPD and the Lifecycle team are doing an excellent job and have been for a full 12 months in difficult circumstances – a big fan!”
Val has been addressing some really key issues. One of the main challenges facing the profession is that accountants will now, for the first time, be preparing accounts that have to deal with financial support measures related to Covid and the treatment of these is new and, in some cases, potentially confusing. Val gives some really practical guidance on how to deal correctly with these tricky issues, some of which were highlighted in our interview with her last month.
We’ve had over 500 registrations so far – there are still places available for the remaining 90 minute sessions on 24th and 30th March. They are free to attend so just click here to ensure you don’t miss out.
Autumn Tax Update
Giles will be back in September with a 13 date Autumn Tax Update running through till the end of November – book your place here.
